UNLABELLED

the right to be me”

Triumphing over sexism & prejudice,

Shedding the stereotypes of society,

Unlabelled gives girls the power to be themselves.”

Unlabelled is planned by us & we decide on the goals and format of the group. We decided that the group be called “Unlabelled” because no one should be labeled according to how they look. As girls, we’re expected to be, look and act a certain way ~ as a result many women never know who they truly are or what they can achieve if given a chance. We’re put inside a box with no where to move and no desire to, since society dictates to us that we should be happy to be there.

We all have the power to break out of the stereotype that society has given us ~ girls have feelings, girls have rights & girls have the power to make positive change to be themselves.

Before girls group we were sitting on the couch not reading books or learning to solve our problems in a non-violent way. Now that we’re in Unlabelled we’re learning to handle our problems in a mature way without violence or discrimination. We’ve learned to help each other & we read & write more often.

The group now meets every Tuesday & Wednesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. We focus on education, life skills and other workshops, plus fundraising. Our activities include drama, dance, music, fashion, sports, & creating a commercial.
